LONEY: Richard Thomas (1925-2016)
Richard Thomas Loney, 91, of Goderich, Ontario, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday December 13, 2016 at the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Elsie and their 5 children; Bruce (Bev), Linda (Rick), Gord, Diane (Will), Rich (Terri-lynn), and by their six grandsons; Jason (Sarah), Scott (Melanie), Travis (Rachel), Garrett (Natasha), Nelson (Chelsey), and Wesley (Kelly) who loved their Poppa, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Richard was born in Toronto on February 17, 1925, the 4th of six in the Loney family. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943-45 and attended Western University and worked at Thompson Publishing and MacLean Hunter Publishing. He and Elsie were married in 1953 and in 1960 moved to the Ottawa area where they raised their family and started their company, Metro Ottawa Delivery. After 42 years they decided to retire and after traveling far and wide, they made Goderich home in 2002. Richard has enjoyed the lake, the beach and was a familiar face to many around town. He had recently been recovering from knee replacement surgery and was doing very well and was looking forward to dancing on New Years Eve. Richard was a devoted husband, father and Poppa, who will be missed my many.
A memorial service and reception will take place at St. George's Anglican Church, 87 North Street, Goderich on Monday December 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard to St. Georges Anglican Church, Goderich, http://stgeorgesgoderich.org or The Salvation Army, Goderich, http://www.suncoastcitadel.com would be appreciated.
