Sandra (Saakje) Raidt nee Hiemstra
Passed into Glory in her 90th year. December 12th 2020, she went peacefully with family by her side at the Stratford General Hospital. Beloved Wife of the late Gerrit Raidt (1999). Dearly loved Mother of Yvonne and Blair Dunlop of St. Pauls, Raymond Raidt of Londesborough, Brian Raidt of Londesborough, Wendy Raidt of London, Rob and Lisa Raidt of Clinton. Beloved Grandmother of Daniel, Stephanie and Kassandra Raidt. Remembered also by siblings Geert and Lise Hiemstra of Whitby and Clarence and Lois Haasjes of B.C. as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was born during the Depression in 1931 in the town of Westerbork, the Netherlands, and grew up during W.W.II in Holland and went on to become a nurse. She followed her family to Canada in 1955 but returned briefly to Holland for further nursing and education. She immigrated again to Canada a few years later. She worked as a nurse in Woodstock where she met Gerrit. They married in 1963 and made a home in Hamilton. They started a family and moved to Clinton to take over her parents' chicken farm. They moved to a new farm near Londesborough and the family continued to grow to a completion of five children. Her home was always a welcoming hub of activity for extended family, neighbours and friends. She was active in the Clinton Christian Reformed Church as well as the Clinton Christian School Community. They retired to the house they built next to the farm where her life continued to be full and active. Her final six years were spent in Huronview where she continued to bring joy to all those around her. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. A funeral service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held at the Clinton Christian Reformed Church, 243 Princess St., Clinton, on Thursday December 17, 2020 at 2 p.m. All those wishing to attend must register with Falconer Funeral Homes, Clinton, either by visiting Sandra’s obituary or by calling the funeral home at 519-482-9521.
