Obituary of Edward George Watson
Edward George Watson
December 8, 1930 – March 21, 2017
Edward Watson died peacefully at Huronview, Clinton in his 87th year on March 21st, 2017 with his wife Joan of 60 years by his side.
Edward was born and raised in Blyth and enjoyed life in the rural community. After high school Edward became an 'Aggie' at the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph and upon graduation, returned home to become a third generation drover and to marry Joan. He took over the family business in 1966 and together he and Joan expanded it in 1973. Many wonderful memories were created over the years when Edward and his friends travelled west to buy cattle for local farmers – and for himself. He proudly fed western calves and later raised Limousin and Herefords on his farm at the edge of town. Sharing his father's passion for horses and horse racing, he had much success with his pacers Smart Viking and JD's Dixie. He was most happy at farm and livestock auction sales and his barn housed many of his great buys throughout the years.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife Joan and their five children John (Kim) of Blyth, Kim (Paul Orrick) of London, Jayne Ritchie (Mel) of Lucknow, Jeff of Mississauga and Lisa of Toronto, his seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Wilma Gummow and brother Jack (Jean) and countless nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the staff of Huronview Home for the Aged for their five years of care and compassion.
Friends and Family will be received at Trinity Anglican Church (166 Dinsley Street West, Blyth) for visitation on Friday, March 24th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Trinity Anglican Church on Saturday, March 25th at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church Blyth, or to the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation.
