Peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 John Van Den Assem of Brussels went to be with his Lord in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Joan (Lazet) Van Den Assem. Loving father of Dylan & Mary-Ann Van Den Assem, Oscar & Elizabeth Van Den Assem and Rebecca & Jim Siertsema. Cherished Opa of Melissa, Reuben (Emily), Caroline (Richard) Pennings, Morgan, Aidan, Courtney, Galen, and Colton Van Den Assem, Joshua, Mandy and Chantelle Van Den Assem and Joel, Annelise, Philip and Raquelle Siertsema. Dear brother of Margaret Jongsma, Ann Reinsma, Alvin Wallace, Lee Van Den Assem, Nick and Nancy Van Den Assem, Ben Van Den Assem & Catherine Cornish. Step brother of Rita Lazet, Mary Guetter, Margaret Kuiper and Art & Marilyn Lazet. Predeceased by siblings Corrie Wallace, Tina & Henk Zeilstra, Tony Van Den Assem, Piet Lazet, Kees Kuiper, Piet Reinsma and Henry Jongsma. Visitation will be held at the Blyth Christian Reformed Church, 354 Queen St. on Thursday, June 14 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. where the funeral service will take place on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Vander Wal officiating. Interment Blyth Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Christian Blind Mission or Voice of the Martryrs would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
