All of those that had Jerry involved in their lives quickly realized they were meeting a very interesting person. In business he was an entrepreneur who was proud of the small businesses he built over the course of his career, and in life he was a true adventurer.
Starting life in Toronto, Jerry attended Pickering College and after university was stationed across Canada as an RCAF jet pilot. He leaves behind his partner Pamela Stone Stanley, two sons, Richard (Michelle) and Zachary (Caleigh), his grandson, Jason (Marianne) and two great-grandchildren, Koa and Akela. Jerry also had a great extended family and was a favourite in-law to Ina Fisher, Jarle and Carla, Jay and Cathy Fisher, Sibyl and Bill Henderson, and Nancy and Dave Sneddon. He quietly but avidly followed his boys’ business and athletic successes, always their biggest fan.
To state it simply, in his youth Jerry was a jock with a passion for football, skiing, tennis and golf, and track and basketball where he had Canadian Olympic tryouts. An athlete for all seasons, his true frustration with sport was that he never learned a good golf short game. In business he was a salesman at heart and spent the later part of his career in real estate management operating a business in Sarnia and subsequently in Collingwood, where he spent many years participating in the community. Jerry viewed his time as the founding President of the National Ski Academy in Collingwood as a great opportunity to give back to sports and youth. Six years ago Jerry and Pam retired to Clinton ON where each day was peaceful and happy.
Jerry took his “final flight” over the handlebars of his beloved race bike, ten days after his 84th birthday. He was immediately cared for by neighbours and paramedics and despite wearing his helmet, required three stiches. His heart showed damage later that night, but the heart attack was not severe and on Friday it was believed he was over the worst of the incident. At 3 PM on Saturday afternoon however Jerry had a severe brain hemorrhage and a stroke. His sports fitness provided him the strength to say goodbye to his family and he then passed away peacefully during the night in his sleep.
