Obituary of Donald Robert Ellwood
ELLWOOD
At Maitland Manor, Goderich, in his 88th year, Donald Robert Ellwood concluded his journey through this life on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Don was born in Clinton on June 6, 1931 and spent the balance of his life as a resident, local auto mechanic at Wells Garage, and an employee of the PUC. Don is predeceased by his parents Dick & May Ellwood, his sister Marie and his brother in law Robert “Bud” Schoenhals. Don is survived by his nieces and nephews, Bruce (Pat) Schoenhals, Sandra (Don) Petteplace, Peggy (Charly) Babin and Doug (Brenda) Schoenhals, as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Don lived a life of service, whether caring for his elderly mother until her death at 96 years young, to helping guide his sister Marie through a significant life transition after Bud’s passing in 1998. He was a proud member of the Anglican Church in Clinton; there for the service nearly every Sunday and often pitching in to volunteer however he could during the churches many fundraising dinners and social events.
Don will be remembered by many as a tireless and dedicated worker, who had a quick wit, a dry sense of humour and a way with words. Most importantly he was someone who frequently placed the needs of others before his own. He spent the last ten years of his life in Goderich, first at Goderich Place and then at Maitland Manor. Don’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at both for making the last years, months, and very recently the final days of Don’s life contented and comfortable. Don can now finally be at peace and rest easy, hopefully knowing the effect he had on many in his community.
At Don’s request cremation has taken place. There will be a private family graveside service held at Clinton Cemetery. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Clinton Branch no. 140 on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 12-2 p.m. where all may attend. Memorial donations to the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the Falconer Funeral Homes. Condolences for the family may be placed at www.falconerfuneralhomes.com
