We got to know Irene through my mother-in-law, Jean Bell. She golfed with us and showed an amazing amount of patience. She was adored by so many people. Jean was one of those people and hosted Irene's 80th birthday party just days before her sudden passing. Rest in peace Irene.

I remember our Aunt Irene as a capable, strong and independant woman. A feminist before feminism was popular. I remember her gifts of warm, knitted woolen socks that were reinforced with thread in the toes and heels because that is where they always wore out. And they came with handwritten instructions on how to wash them. Once when she stayed with us while recuperating from pneumonia, I gave her a pie dough recipe which she loved and continued to call it my special pie dough recipe even though I repeatedly told her it came from the Tenderflake box. Anyway, I was proud that she actually admired something about me because she was not an easy woman to impress and did not suffer fools. Irene, my older brother Bob and I also shared the same birthday. She would send us birthday money yearly to go out for supper to celebrate our collective birthdays, which we did. We were close with her daughter (my cousin) Patricia and grew closer to Irene during Patricia’s battle with cancer and eventual passing. Mom and daughter are reunited now. Happy trails Irene.

Irene & I are birthday twins and I was able to celebrate our birthdays together at my Aunt Sharon’s home in February 2017.
I was able to cook her favourite meal, Stir Fry, for the occasion and I made her a Log Cake.
[chocolate biscuits & fresh whipping cream] .
I am saddened by the loss of Irene, however I believe she is in a more peaceful, gentler and kinder place.
Irene was a formidable force, constantly stepping up to contribute to community events and fundraising.
Irene, like a dear, dear and confusing friend of mine in Winnipeg had/has such a generous and giving Spirit: however the personality did not match the generosity.
I believe we ALL misrepresent our true selves at many times & in many ways in our lives.
I know I do and have, however every day I strive to grow forward in LOVE not FEAR!
I am so grateful that in the two weeks before Irene passed I enjoyed being able to participate and provide support to Irene by accompanying her going to the credit union, grocery store, Victoria Hospital in London, out for a Bento Lunch at a very nice sushi place in London with Irene & Karen, enjoyed a sunset down at the Harbour and a frozen yogurt [on a waffle cone] afterwards, [to which Irene said were 2 firsts for her] with Auntie Sharon.
I believe Life is a massive learning curve and we all never know what is going on inside for other people we encounter day to day, so we could ALL anchor ourselves in LOVE & KINDNESS…there is already way too much FEAR & LOATHING in this Beautiful World!
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his [their] point of view….Until you climb into his [their] skin and walk around in it.” ~ Atticus Finch
A spry & chipper 93 year old neighbour of my 100 year old Great Aunt Mavis in Ottawa [RIP] who had just lost his wife of 65 years, said to me that same February [2017] when we had a little chat about Life, The Universe & Everything…
“…well..IT is ALL about how we treat it!”
May we ALL treat Life and each other WELL!
I LOVE YOU IRENE…may your tired Spirit soar free…Thank you for all that you shared with me!
I am GRATEFUL my feisty little birthday twin!
Peace be with you!
Sincerely & with Love,
Jennifer Parkinson

Irene was an enthusiastic and successful participant in the needle work competitions and a craft vendor at the Bayfield Fair. In 2017, Irene received the President's Award from the Bayfield Agricultural Society for her long-time support of the organization. Irene always had excellent advice to share about fundraising. Her quick wit and personality will be missed by her friends at the Bayfield Agricultural Society.

I will always remember my Aunt Irene as a loving mother. Irene's daughter Patricia lived in Calgary, where I live. When Patricia was dying from cancer in 2011, Irene came out to provide care. She was tireless, supportive and stayed strong for her daughter. I was so impressed with Irene as a person and mother. May she and her beloved daughter be reunited in a better place.

I have known Irene for 62 years. She was a good friend to my Mother ( Beatrice Corran) and after her passing we rekindled our friendhip. She is the strongest woman I've ever known. She was so kind and loving in her own private way. I know she will be happy to reunite with her daughter. She often talked about her to me as I remember her. I was so blessed to have this lovely lady in my life and share time with me. We shared our struggle with cancer and know I will meet up with her soon. My sincere condolences to her family and dear friends.
I will miss her Helen Corran Rix.
