Our beloved Mother, Olive passed away peacefully on Dec 3rd 2020, after a short battle with cancer, just weeks before her 76th birthday. I was there sitting next to her when she passed from this world to the next and I know that it came fast and it was a peaceful passing.
Olive Mary Elaine White was born in a farmhouse in Moosomin, Saskatchewan in 1944. She was raised on her family farm by her parents; James and Susan White along with her two brothers, Hal and Dale.
Olive met the love of her life Courtney Cyril (Cy) Williams while working as a Nurses Aide at the Salvation Army Hospital in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Cy Williams proposed on Valentines Day, 1966 and Olive happily agreed. They eloped on March 3rd, 1966 and were married at the Anna Dale Anglican Church in Toronto Ontario. They were together for 56 years. Together they lovingly raised 5 children; Susan, Cyril, Lorrie-Ann, Kimberley and Cathy.
Olive also had 4 step children; Shirley, James, Richard and Norma. She had 26 grandchildren and many great grandchildren who she adored and showered with love whenever she could.
Olive loved her children deeply and family was very important to her. She and Cy wanted to give their children the very best shot at life possible so it was no surprise to their friends in Manitoba when Olive and Cy announced that they as a family would be taking a huge leap and moving to a big city and in 1985, Olive and Cy re-located from Manitoba to Ontario and raised their family there.
They were joined in Ontario by longtime family friends, the Morands and Olive adored having her longtime friends join them on their grand adventure to live in Ontario. Joan and Victor and their children Lorne, Christopher, Glen and Jennifer were a big part of Olive’s life. Our two families were so very close. Our two family’s enjoyed many years of loving friendships and Mom greatly missed her best friends Vic and Joan after their passing. (God Bless them)
Olive and Cy worked very hard at finding the perfect spot to raise their family and after stints in Oshawa, Toronto and Scarborough – Olive and Cy finally decided on Clinton, Ontario as their area of choice and from 1992 onwards, Huron County became their home.
Olive loved her family, her music and dancing but most of all she loved her husband and love of her life - Cy. The deep love for her husband and family was present in all her endeavors. This was obvious in all conversations with Olive, as well as in the mementos, letters and photos that she kept and cherished over the years.
My sisters and myself have been enjoying remembering the things that she loved, that she enjoyed doing and that she did well.
She loved dancing, music, running and was also a strong swimmer. She had an amazing sense of humor and loved to laugh. Mom learned to swim in a lake in Moosomin and often spoke about her glory days swimming. Olive went to Marvel hair dressing school and growing up we all had top notch bowl cuts and other modern styles. She loved Halloween and was always game to dress up. She and our father loved to throw Halloween parties and as a result she and Cy became close with a number of her children's friends.
She was a beloved Aunt to many, including but not limited to Craig, Marika, Kyra, Tim, Andy, Greg and Eldon who were like sons to her and Emily, Liz, Verna, Vicky, Pearl, Anna and Irene who were like sisters to her. She was close to all my Dad's sisters and brothers. Most notably Aunt Phillis who is our father’s only remaining sister. She was particularly close to Aunt Irene and Aunt Francis (God Bless Them)
Olive also loved Christmas because it gave her another chance to decorate and to see her much beloved array of grandchildren – including but not limited to (and please forgive me if I miss any) Randy, Lyndsay Katie, Christopher, Jaime, Travis, Elijah, Xander, Courtney, Samantha, Cassidy, Emily, Siobhan, Cian, Mairead, Aiedan, Timothy, Bradley, Richard, Jessica, Michelle, Rae-Anne, Lisa, Doug, Savanah, Michelle and any number of cousins, great grandchildren and any assortment of their friends. Olive thrived and loved the organized celebratory chaos that a Williams Family Christmas often brought with it and was most at home when she had a house full of family bustling with activity. One of her favorite Christmas traditions was a single mandarin orange in the toe of every Holiday stocking and opening one Christmas present on Christmas eve - usually a pair of crisp new pajamas from her mom, our beloved Grandma.
To our Mom, nothing was funny or laughable - it was always comical and she loved that word and telling comical stories. She had a sweet tooth and loved chocolate covered cherries most of all. She was a heck of a Poker and Euchre player, an exceptional Harts player and she particularly loved playing with our Aunt Joan and Uncle Victor.
My Mom was also a heck of a cool Mother-in-law to Willie, Greg, Angela, George, Gord, John, Vinnie, Jason and Nick and she went out of her way to make them feel welcome in our huge family.
She would inevitably share with each of them the infamous story of how she and my Dad met. It would likely happen over a cup of tea or coffee around her kitchen table and to me it perfectly illustrated her unwavering love and dedication to my Dad and how she expect no less from any man or woman who would love one of her children.
Like her children, my Mom had some really endearing quirks. She told the best stories and was often the person letting the rest of the family know what was happening in other parts of the family. Whether someone was sick or having a new baby – Mom would make sure the rest of the family knew. She was our historian and she kept, updated and honoured our family by keeping the list of birthdays and anniversaries up to date with cards and calls. Both filled with love.
She loved red lipstick. And she often said that she knew our Dad loved it on her too. I personally loved how she always referred to him as her little soldier boy. We will always remember her wearing her red lipstick, always smiling, tapping her feet to her favorite music.
Whenever anyone of us would visit her, she would always ask us to call her when we got home to make sure we were safe.
If we didn't, she would call to check. Only satisfied when she knew for a fact we were home safely.
My Mom enjoyed a long and full life. She lived a life full of light and laughter and had many people in her life that she loved and that loved her.
She can now rest easy knowing that she is loved and will be greatly missed. We, her family and friends can take some solace in knowing she has gone home safely into the arms of our loving God, and I am quite certain she is looking down at us right now smiling. Proud of us, proud that we have come together to honour you as a family.
One of my Mom's favorite poems was Footprints in the Sand and in closing I would like to read it to you here today in honour of my Mom.
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
We all love you dearly. You have touched our lives so very much by your love. We were so lucky to have your as our beloved mother. We wouldn't be here if not for you. Thank you for everything you have done. We know you are at peace and smiling down at us in heaven.
We will never forget you. You will always be our angel.
Good bye Mom. We will meet again one day in heaven. You made a significant difference in all our lives.
You will be greatly missed.
May God Bless you all
…..
Fin.

This is Phyllis Courtneys sister. Sister-in-law to Ollie.
I am going to share something my brother Eddie wrote for our mother when she passed away.
"Noone heard the footsteps of the angles drawing near, who took from us to heaven the one we love so dear, weep not for me my son and daughters and family nor wish me back again, for I am free from toil and pain, above the clouds domain."
Rest in peace Ollie, you will always be loved and missed.
Love your Sister-in-law Philly
