Barry & I met in his bio-diesel days. Got to know him better on the “Flax Project”; told me all about the flax mill he regretted selling. Generously offered his home when I travelled, eating at “Kate’s Kitchen” or “China Wok” from the cluttered table. As a night owl, he kept me up spotting “lakers” or trains, or “circling the square”. He was a round peg in a square hole; a homebody who ventured to Belize, a bachelor who fostered children. Despite: “No wife, no kids, no pets, no debts”, he saw the potential of everyone he met. Interested in church architecture, royal history, horticulture; just how many “chicken” curios were there? His poultry portraits will long grace art collector walls. Liked rural rambles, regaling me about each place we passed and visiting “Old Order” friends. Barry could be grumpy, but I will remember his cheerful demeanor and impish grin; a jolly elf decked out in safety shoes, straw hat, and gray beard, a man who deeply loved his community. ‘Til we meet again.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Barry's passing. We became friends in the 1980s though the poultry fancy. We continued to keep in touch through the years, although not as much in recent years. Barry always had an interest in what I was doing and how I was making out with my poultry. I had the pleasure of visiting with him right after my high school graduation in 1985. A trip I still fondly remember yet. I last had the pleasure of seeing Barry last April when I made the trip from PEI to the poultry sale at Mount Forest. I am glad I had the opportunity to have that brief time with him that day.
My sincere sympathies to the family.

Cleave family: Have known Barry for many years when we moved to Varna. He had worked for me on the broiler farm and after that did some odd jobs for me. He was a good friend to my son. I loved his chicken paintings. Rest in peace. Pat chipchase

I was sorry to hear of Barry's passing. He was a caring and knowledgable man. He was the 4H leader for both my brother and myself for a few years in our young teen years (late 80's). Our comunity is built on volunteers and caring adults. I would like to thank him for his time and dedication.

Dear Marilyn and family,
I just found out today (i.e. Monday) of Barry's passing. I must admit that I was not totally shocked as I know he was dealing with some major health problems and had been for awhile. Barry and I actually talked a lot in the last few years on the phone and email. In fact, I just talked to him ten days ago. I will dearly miss him and his support. I tried to help him as best I could and he me. To me he was a very kind man and a connection to your side of the family that he maintained and he was good at this as I am sure you know. I am glad I got to see him and you and your family in 2005 and will live with this fond memory for the rest of my life. My heart goes out to you and family and if there is anything I can do to help you in this time of morning, please let me know. I send this with much love and sympathy in my heart for you and him and your families.
Your Cousin,
Dale

Our whole office is saddened and surprised by Barry's passing. He was a good friend for many years. We liked to share our knowledge of our mutual interests; diabetes, food, health etc. We will miss his annual visits. Our sincerest sympathy.
Our daughter Elizabeth took the first two white Wyandot paintings he gave to me to her Toronto home. I ordered tow more and they remain on permanent display in our office.

Marilyn and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your sudden loss. Barry was such a kind, thoughtful and talented man. He will be missed by the community, his friends and family. I was always amazed by the artistic talents that were hidden in this quiet man - his chicken paintings were my favourites.
Blessed thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
