I'm very sorry to find this online after searching for Doug Marr. My husband and I purchased a "First Summer of the Century" print on a trip to Provincetown way back when. I love the print and look at it everyday. Doug Marr, truly a talent for any century. My condolences to Doug's family and friends.

I am truly saddened to just hear of Doug's passing. Each time we walk through Provincetown I look for him and hope to see the Gallery re-opened. I miss the times my family went into the gallery to see the latest works of Doug and Carlos, and especially the conversations we had about the locations and stories about specific work. Walking through town will never be the same and the paintings we do have will mean even more. He is missed

Carlos --
My deepest sympathies to you and Doug's family -- I just came across his obituary while looking around the internet wondering where you and he were.....I'm not sure if you remember our family from P-Town, but my son, Glenn and his wife, Kathy my daughter, Heather and my husband and I purchased a variety of Doug's paintings and your photos which still adorn the rooms of our homes. I was sadden to hear of the loss of such a special artist and a dear companion to you. His legacy will live on through his beautiful paintings.

With my sister Jill I met Doug when he lived at 201 Beck in Preston, and had many incredible laughs and good times there and at Grand Bend, and later when he visited us at Heffley Lake/Kamloops. I can't believe he is gone forever—he was such a vibrant life force. I have so many vivid and hilarious memories, mostly from the early 70s, of spontaneous (and often crazy) escapades with Doug, and though I lost touch over the years, I think of him fondly, and chuckle. Imaginative little expressions using pop culture references, and nicknames were his stock-in-trade—I still call my best friend from high school (who also knew Doug) by the nickname he gave her. He had the gift of endearing himself to everyone he met. I'm sorry I was unable to come and celebrate his life, but suspect it was a good send-off. Sending along my heartfelt condolences to Carlos and Doug's family, who must miss him deeply.

My heart is heavy. I met Doug back in the days of Beck Street "the farm", and Grand Bend "Mama Trotts". Doug truly was way too much fun to be with...always ready for an adventure, always ready with the one-liners, always ready to pick up the tab, and always with that huge smile! He was a very caring and generous man. We have had so many belly laughs over the years, far too numerous to mention. I feel privileged to have called Doug my friend, and the wonderful memories of our time together will stay with me forever.
The song has ended, but the melody lingers on...Irving Berlin
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Carlos, Jane, Terry and family.

Most of my memories of Doug were in the Athletes Foot days and early 1980's. We often drove up to Grand Bend together on Saturday nights after work to meet the rest of the gang at one of several cottages over the years. I have lots of vivid memories of those times - Cheryl Ann foot longs and beach volleyball. When I picture Doug he was always wearing one of those striped rugby shirts that were so popular. He was a good man who left this world far too soon. Sincere condolences.

First of all please accept my heartfelt sympathy on the death of Doug. Even though I had several jobs after Athlete's Foot, none remain in my heart like my first one with the 'boys'. Doug's easy smile and infinite patience with me have never been forgotten. I am so happy that he found happiness after Athlete's Foot. It sounds like he had a very fulfilling life and that Carlos was a big part of that. Carlos must be a unique person.
I wish I could be there on Saturday, however when John and I retired we moved to New Brunswick to be with our daughter and her family.
Please give my best to all the family and know that Doug has been and will be in my heart.

I am sorry to hear of Doug's passing. After growing up as neighbours on Stanley Drive I was fortunate enough to meet up with Doug and also to meet Carlos in Provincetown about 10 years ago. I had no idea Doug was in Provincetown but after bicycling past The Doug Marr Gallery I turned around and just had to see if this was the Doug I knew. I remember how totally surprised he was to see me and how welcoming he was. His art was really impressive and I purchased a few limited edition prints (Doug gave me some cards as well). I gave some of them to my mother, Doris, in Waterloo who thoroughly enjoyed hearing of my chance meeting and of Doug's artistic success. She had never been to Cape Cod and enjoyed the paintings.
My best wishes to the family. Always remember the successes and happy moments....

To Jane, John, Terry, Jamie , Claire and Carlos
Who have been part of my life and still are through David and Katherine, I am offering you my most sincere thoughts of condolences .
Doug will remain with you in many ways.
Too young to go but he was living a full life and followed his heart, not enough people live that way, taking chances to do what he truly loved and was successful at what he created.
Sending my love
Louise

I remember Doug well during his Toronto days...in fact it's hard for me to remember my coming out without including Doug. He was that "bigger than life" personality that everyone was attracted to. I will always remember him fondly.

I was a friend of Doug's in the eighties .We were in our thirties and as gay men took advantage of every bit of freedom and fun that we could wring out of the times. This included speaking up and out about not putting up with any more discrimination. Although we lost far too many good friends and pals, the AIDS crisis made us stronger, more organized, more determined that all people must be treated equally, fairly and with respect. Doug was a very good man. I was proud to have him as a friend.

We are heartbroken to learn of Doug's passing. We will miss him very much. Whenever we got into town, we were always happy to wave hi to our "neighbors" across Main Street. Doug (and of course Carlos too) was always so friendly with our family and greeted the boys by name. William would always make a point of bringing a different toy each morning to show Doug when we arrived at the coffee shop for our banana and blueberry muffins (which Doug would sometimes put aside so the boys weren't disappointed if they were all gone!) Henry would be happy to stay in the restaurant to chat with Doug and Carlos all day! Our heart-felt love and prayers are with Carlos at this exceptionally difficult time. May Doug rest in peace knowing he was loved and admired by so many.
