Obituary of Margaret Cela Sloman
Sloman, Margaret Cela
Margaret died peacefully, on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Clinton Public Hospital. She was in her 84th year. As a professional nanny, Margaret travelled all over the world caring for children. She touched so many with her sweet, kind and enthusiastic nature. The creative games and outings that she developed will be among our most cherished memories of childhood. Margaret was instrumental in bringing Clintons CNR School on Wheels to Sloman Park in 1982, and was a driving force in its restoration as an Ontario Heritage site. She served on countless committees and Boards of Directors, including Klompenfest and the Clinton Horticultural Society, where she founded the Junior Gardeners Club. She was honoured several times by the town of Clinton for her selfless volunteerism, and in 1983 was awarded the towns "Christmas Spirit Award". She is survived by her sisters, Dr. Elizabeth (the late Dr. Donald Hillman) of St. John's Nfld. and Toby Rainey of Clinton. She will be missed by her special friends, Alexandra Ivey of Toronto, Joyce and Harvey Atchison of Clinton, many nieces and nephews and by her cat, Tux. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Cela Sloman, sister, Joan (Bill Reid) and by her brother, Bill (June). The date of a Celebration of Life for Margaret will be announced early in the new year. Arrangements entrusted to the Falconer Funeral Homes, Clinton Chapel 519-482-9521.
