I fondly remember the Steenstra family. For a number of years I picked up the milk from the farm. Dick can not deny he is a Steenstra!! He reminds me of his Dad. He went Home too soon but what a home that he wnet to. May that give comfort to all that are missing him. My wife went Home on Oct 23. God is good even in having to lose the one we love!!

Helen and family
This is to express my deep condolences on Dick's passing.
I am one of Dick's fellow classmates from his student days at Waterloo. I echo Barry's thoughts and can add a couple. Dick was "one of the gang" and well-liked by everyone. He always seemed to have a smile (but you know that). When he decided to return to farming, I was not too surprised. I thought he was a country boy at heart.
I very much appreciated that because I have close relatives who had a farm near Kincardine. When we visited them each year I always wondered if we could come to visit Dick, but did not know where he was so it never happened. Too bad.
Dick lived with Peter Keilhofer, Les Fincham and me for a short time in a townhouse we rented in 1970 when we were all starting out in the working world. Peter and Dick apparently spent several weeks driving around Ontario in Dick's old Volvo doing some kind of planning research. When Dick decided to go back to the farm, he took the two pet cats with him to have a good home because we were not able to take them when our lease expired and we moved elsewhere.
Again, my condolences. Stay safe.

Our sincere sympathy to Helen and the entire Steenstra family, on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Dick was a character with a keen curiosity and intellect, mixed with an off beat sense of humour and perhaps a little mischief. We enjoyed his company and will miss the times our families connected at Tony and Myra’s home. Rest In Peace and Love Dick, Susan and Vito.

We were so sad to hear of Dick’s passing. Dick and Helen were thoughtful and supportive when my boys and I moved to the neighbourhood. I will forever treasure and value their support because it was given at a time when I needed it the most.
I’ve enjoyed some lively debates on Facebook in the past while. I’m not sure if it was Dick or Helen but either way, I’ve enjoyed being part of an articulate and thoughtful community.
Thank you for being such amazing people and I’m so sorry for your loss

My sincere condolences to the family.
I knew Dick as a friend and a classmate at the UofW in the late '60's. Later, we worked very closely together for a few years as city planners with the Metro Toronto Planning Board in the early 70's before he departed for the family farm. He was a wonderful guy and it is clear he has left an amazing legacy. Many of his classmates at Waterloo have heard about his passing and all are devastated as we were planning a reunion last June that was derailed by the virus. Easily one of the nicest guys I have ever met. You are all blessed as I am sure he was blessed by all of you in his family. / Sincerely; Barry Morrison.
