Obituary of Dick Steenstra
STEENSTRA: DICK
Suddenly, after a short battle with cancer, Dirk (Dick) Steenstra passed away peacefully at his home on Nov 2, 2020. Born on June 1, 1947 in The Netherlands, he emigrated to Canada in 1953 with his parents and two brothers. They lived in Sarnia where three sisters joined the family before settling in Goderich Twp. at the present day farm. Dick went on to graduate from the University of Waterloo and worked as a city planner in Toronto before taking over the family dairy operation. While farming was his vocation, he had a curious mind and loved to read and analyze, master crossword puzzles and meet new people. He liked to engage in lively discussions and had a passion to debate, always leaving an impression on those he met. He is predeceased by his parents Marten and Maaike Steenstra and is survived by his devoted wife, Helen (Wierenga), after 44 years of marriage. Dick will be greatly missed by his siblings Bill (Lynda) Steenstra, Stewart (Pat) Steenstra, Doreen (Dave) McConnell, Kathleen (Kevin) Steenstra & Margaret (William) Cunningham as well as his many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of 6 children and 12 grandchildren who will miss him immensely.
