Obituary of Phyllis Thompson

THOMPSON: MARGARET “PHYLLIS” With deep sadness, the family of Margaret Phyllis Thompson announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, January 3, 2021, after a long and well-lived life. Phyllis has gone to join her beloved husband Robin (R.E. Thompson), leaving behind six children and their families: Stephen (Teri), Elizabeth, George (Tracy), Marian (Joe), Jamie (Martha), and Peter (Sandy). Also mourning her departure are 13 grandchildren, scattered around the world, but always at the centre of Phyllis’s heart. There are no greatgrandchildren, but grandma had been making some broad hints to the granddaughters. Phyllis will be missed by her friends in the community, notably the 16th concession (now Stone School Line) and Maitland line of Goderich Township. For Phyllis, being a neighbour was both natural and essential, and this time of pandemic was difficult. Many friends and neighbours managed to keep in touch and if not in touch, were certainly in her thoughts. The church was another cornerstone of her life, and she deeply regretted the closing of St. Paul’s Anglican church, especially as the Thompsons were among the first families. Phyllis wrote a history of the church and collected a church archive so that its memory would not be lost. She also secured the Thompson family pew (number 13) and had great plans to install it in her basement. Phyllis was keenly interested in genealogy and had a vast circle of friends who were researching their roots. She published several family histories and helped others do their research. It is impossible to mention all the people she touched in her long life and who will miss her presence. Phyllis died at noon on Sunday – the time church traditionally got out, and she and Robin got in the car and drove home. A light has gone out for those left behind, but we know she and Robin are setting out on their next adventure together. A private family funeral service will be held at the Falconer Funeral Homes – Clinton.
