I have met many people during my life. There are those that have touched my heart and will remain with me until I die---Barb and Scotty are two of those.
Many years ago, in some ways it seems like another life, Bud and I had a dozen hens, which were housed in a chicken coop on Bud's property, behind Barb and Scotty's. We were both going to be away so we asked if Barb and Scotty could check on the hens, feed and water them, and gather the eggs. I had a small pail, lined with a piece of soft cloth, that I gathered the eggs in. It hung inside the door of the coop for easy access.
I arrived back in Bayfield and the next morning went to "the cabin" to do the chores (check on the hens). As I was working, Barb arrived. In her hand was a lovely wicker basket with a handle, lined with the soft material I had used in the pail. She told me that "the girls" needed a special basket for their eggs after all the work they did producing those 10-12 eggs a day. I was thrilled and could not have agreed more.
Well, eventually, "the girls" had to go, but, to this day, I still have that basket. It went from the "egg basket" to the "clothespin basket". Because it is on an open shelf, I look at it every time I go into our laundry room/main floor bathroom and think of Barb and Scotty, their kindness and generosity, and "the girls".
My feelings of deepest sympathy go out to you at this sad time. I hope that by sharing this memory your hearts are lightened.
Sincerely Yours,
Beth Rathwell-Kelly
