Obituary of Larry Powell
Lawrence Middleton Powell
19 August 1941 - 7 July 2019
Born and raised on a farm in Goderich Township, he was the loving, steadfast and devoted husband to Margaret (Ducharme) for 53 years of marriage, working together building a home for their family. Larry was the son of the late Francis and Marion (Middleton) Powell who nurtured in him a strong sense of decency, kindness and compassion. He enjoyed a 30 year career as a well respected teacher and educator with the Huron County Board of Education. After his retirement he could be found tending the orchard at Middleton's. Larry faced his cancer diagnosis the way he lived his life - with a quiet resolve and never a word of complaint. He continued to go about his daily chores - cutting and stacking firewood, tinkering in his workshop and planting the garden as he has done for the past 50 years. He died peacefully in his 78th year at the Huron Residential Hospice surrounded by the love of his family. Proud father to Michael (Terumi) and Jeffery (Melanie); cherished Grandpa to Leo, Yuri, Lauren and Jake. Remembering his humble nature and sense of humour are his siblings Catherine Maltby and John Powell, his Ducharme in-laws Sharron, Sarah, Joanne & Bill, Pat & Ron, Cathy & Gerry, Ann & Jamie, Terry, Cathie, many beloved nieces and nephews, life long friend Marilyn and his much loved extended family, the Devereaux's. Predeceased by his parents Francis and Marion (Middleton) Powell, his sister Nancy and her husband John Shaddick, brother in law Murray Maltby and Margaret's family Nap and Ulene Ducharme, Julie, Ray and Ray Jeffrey. A visitation will be held at the Clinton United Church Auditorium, 105 Ontario St., Clinton, ON on 10 July at 1 pm, celebration of life at 2 pm, luncheon to follow at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Huron Residential Hospice or charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Falconer Funeral Homes, Clinton. Messages of Condolence for the Powell Family may be placed at www.falconerfuneralhomes.com
